Dublin
McLoughlin Industrial Flooring were appointed by contractors, Bennett Construction, as resin flooring contractor at the newly built, state of the art, educational facility at No.26 York Street, Dublin. The building itself comprises of 10 floors, 4 of which are underground, with a Sika® ComfortFloor® application on all 10 floors. The building accommodates surgical training, clinical simulation facilities, a 540 seat lecture theatre, tutorial rooms, a range of training rooms, a 600 student library, sports hall, gym and associated support facilities.
The client selected resin flooring as an alternative to the more traditional flooring systems, which required constant maintenance, causing logistical and operational problems.
Project Requirements
The RCSI campus has formed part of the streetscape of Dublin for over 230 years and the newest addition at No. 26 York Street puts RCSI at the global forefront of innovation in healthcare education and training.
The project architects, Henry J Lyons, envisaged a unique, modern, inspiring and ambitious medical sciences and surgical training facility while ensuring the enhancement of student amenities and overall experience.
Our Solution
Sika® ComfortFloor® resin flooring is completely seamless, extremely hardwearing and easily cleaned, with excellent acoustic qualities and comfort underfoot. The system also allows for almost limitless design possibilities and aesthetic finishes.
The versatility of the Sika® ComfortFloor® allows application on varying different substrates and is not restricted to concrete, which allowed application to raised access flooring throughout the building. At floor levels underground the system was applied directly to the concrete substrate, however in many areas Sikafloor®-200 Level was used to build-up the floor level or to create falls in other areas as required.
A Sika® Pulastic®, liquid applied, sports floor was installed as the flooring system of choice for the large sports hall and fitness suite including the cardiovascular and fixed weights area along with the female fitness studio.
"The Sika® ComfortFloor® system allowed us to meet the high aesthetical expectations of both the architect and client, whilst keeping within the timeframe allocated to us by the contractors rigid programming." Michael McLoughlin, Managing Director of McLoughlin Industrial Flooring
