How to seal and fill cracks prior to decorating?

SikaSeal® One Hour Caulk is a fast drying decorators’ caulk that is perfect for filling cracks and gaps before painting or wallpapering. It dries quickly, allowing you to decorate after just 1 hour, while creating a smooth, professional finish.

How to apply:

Apply using a standard sealant gun. Cut the tip of the cartridge, apply the nozzle and cut it cleanly at an angle of 45 degrees with an opening slightly larger than the gap to be filled. Keep an even pressure on the gun trigger and keep the gun at a constant angle to the surface being sealed. Smooth it down within 20 minutes of application using a wetted spatula, piece of wood or wetted gloved finger.

How to apply a plaster key?

Sika® Blue Grit is an extra grip plaster bonding agent that creates a textured surface that improves adhesion for plaster on smooth walls and surfaces. It ensures a strong bond.

How to apply:

Use only 1 coat of the product. Stir well before use. Apply using a short pile roller or brush to give an even coating. Allow to dry for 6 hours minimum before applying plaster.

How to level the floor?

Sikafloor®-200 Level is a cementitious floor levelling compound for smoothing and levelling uneven floor surfaces prior to laying tiles and other floor coverings.

How to apply:

Prepare the compound and prime the floor according to the instructions on the Product Data Sheet. To apply one layer, pour the prepared product onto the substrate and spread it evenly using a smoothing trowel, surface blade or screed rake to the required thickness. Allow the product to smooth over the substrate. Immediately use a spike roller to remove any trowel marks or surface defects.

If applying two layers, allow the first layer to harden and then prime the first layer with Sikafloor®-03 Primer or Sikafloor®-01 Primer diluted 1:1 with water. Apply the second layer. The thickness of the second layer must not exceed the thickness of the first.

Sikafloor®-122 Level Universal is a floor levelling compound that smooths and levels uneven rigid floors before the application of final coverings such as carpets, tiles, laminates, timber and more. 

How to apply:

Prepare the compound and prime the floor according to the instructions on the Product Data Sheet. Sikafloor®-122 Level Universal can be applied from a maximum thickness of 6 mm down to a featheredge. Pour the mixed product onto the floor and spread evenly with a steel trowel to form a thin, tight scrape coat. Immediately add further quantities of mixed product to leave a smooth finish (if not, trowel again when the surface is still damp but firm to the touch). If required use a spiked roller to provide a more uniform surface appearance. Additional layers, each not exceeding 6 mm, may be applied to achieve the required depth for your project. Prime with SikaBond® PVA+ diluted 1:3 with water between layers.

How to waterproof a kitchen before tiling?

Sikalastic®-1K ES is a cementitious waterproofing and concrete protection mortar that waterproofs floors and walls before the application of tiles. It forms a seamless, flexible barrier that prevents water ingress while also protecting the concrete surface underneath.

How to apply:

Mix the product with a low speed (< 500 rpm) electrical mixer, ensuring that the mortar is homogenous and lump free. 

If applying the mortar with a brush take care to evenly cover the entire surface. The maximum recommended layer thickness is 1 mm per layer. The application of a minimum of 2 or 3 coats is recommended (subsequent coats must be applied cross-wise and you must until the first coat is dry to apply the next coats).

If applying with a trowel the application must be done covering the whole surface of the substrate with uniform thickness. Press the trowel firmly against the surface. At least 2 coats must be applied with a final thickness of at least 3 mm. The maximum recommended thickness for each layer is 2 mm.

Sikalastic®-6100 FX is a waterproofing mortar that can be used to waterproof internal floors and walls. It provides a flexible and lightweight membrane that waterproofs and protects the concrete substrate. It is waterproof at just 2 mm thickness.

How to apply:

Sikalastic®-6100 FX can be applied by brush, trowel or sprayed with suitable equipment. Roller application is possible, but not recommended. You must dampen the substrate before applying the first coat to ensure adhesion. Apply the first layer to approximately 0.5 mm thickness. Allow at least 2 hours of curing before applying a second coat. Slightly dampen the first coat, removing any excess moisture, and apply the second coat perpendicular to the previous coat. The second layer should be approximately 1.5 mm thick to ensure a total membrane thickness of 2 mm.

How to seal a kitchen counter?

Sikaseal®-175 is a silicone sealant for sanitary applications that creates a flexible, waterproof seal around kitchen counters and worktops, helping to prevent water, food and dirt from getting into joints and gaps. It is ideal for sealing where worktops meet walls, splashbacks or sinks, helping to protect against moisture damage and mould growth.

How to apply:

Prime the joint surfaces as recommended in the Product Data Sheet. Apply masking tape where neat or exact joint lines are required. Insert a backing rod to the required depth. Open the seal on the top of the cartridge, fit the nozzle and cut it to the desired size. Insert the product into a caulking gun. Apply the sealant into the joint ensuring that it comes into full contact with the sides of the joint and avoiding any air entrapment. As soon as possible after application, tool the sealant firmly against the joint sides to ensure adequate adhesion and a smooth finish. Remove the masking tape.

How to seal a kitchen sink?

Sikaseal®-175 is a silicone sealant for sanitary applications that ideal for sealing around kitchen sinks, providing a waterproof, mould-resistant barrier that prevents leaks and stops water from penetrating around the sink edge.

How to apply:

Sika® Forever is a hygienic silicone sealant that provides a flexible and durable waterproof seal in wet environments. It is formulated to resist mould and discolouration, making it ideal for maintaining a clean looking kitchen.

How to apply:

Apply the sealant using a gun, ensuring that it comes into full contact with the sides of the joint and avoiding any air entrapment. Tool the sealant down within 15 minutes of application to ensure a proper bond.

If applying to a plastic or acrylic bath, first fill the bath half way with water and keep the water in it whilst sealing and during curing. This provides the midpoint of any movement that will be encountered.

How to bond kitchen fixtures?

Sika® Stixall® is a hybrid adhesive and sealant that can be used to bond and seal kitchen fixtures such as trims, splashbacks, taps and fittings. It provides a strong, durable bond and a waterproof seal, making it ideal for areas exposed to moisture and areas used daily.

Sika® Stixall® Crystal Clear is a transparent adhesive and sealant that offers the same strong, waterproof bond in a transparent finish, making it ideal for other visible kitchen fixtures and applications where appearance is important.

How to apply:

Cut the tip of the cartridge, fix the nozzle, cut it to the desired size and apply with a standard sealant gun.

For gluing lightweight items, apply the adhesive to back of the item in one or two continuous beads and press it immediately into place. For gluing heavy items, apply the adhesive all the way around the edge of the item 30-50 mm from the edge and cover the back with beads of adhesive at 300 mm intervals.

How to protect my floor while painting or decorating?

EVERBUILD® ROLL & STROLL® Hard Surface Protector is a self-adhesive protective film for hard surfaces such as tile, laminate, vinyl and wood. It protects floors from paint splashes, dirt and spills that occur during painting, decorating and other DIY projects, while remaining securely in place to help avoid slips and movement. It can also be used to protect kitchen counter tops, window sills, doors and glass.

How to apply:

Ensure the surface is clean, dry and dust free. Place roll on the floor facing the direction it is to be applied and unwind approximately 12 inches (300 mm) of material. Ensure the roll is stuck by smoothing out by either hand or foot. Simply push roll forward using hands or feet ensuring roll goes in a straight line. Smooth out with hands or feet as it unwinds. You can also push the roll along with a soft broom/brush using the brush to smooth out and remove air bubbles as it unwinds.

For application to worktops, glass, etc. roll and smooth out the film by hand until the required length is reached. Carefully cut the film with a sharp knife or scissors, take care not to damage or scratch the covered surface.

How to glue skirting and architrave joints?

EVERBUILD® MITRE FAST® is an instant adhesive system designed for quickly bonding skirting board and architrave mitre joints. It bonds in seconds, reducing installation time while creating a strong hold. It is ideal for achieving secure joints when fitting kitchen trims and finishing details.

How to apply:

Ensure the surface to be glued is clean and dry. Store materials in warm place prior to bonding. Spray one surface with the activator. Apply the adhesive sparingly to the other surface. Bring them together and hold in position for about 10 seconds.
