Sika provides a complete integrated system to fulfil the very demanding requirements of wet room, bathroom and shower areas.
- Firstly, the surfaces are primed using Sikafloor®-03 Primer, a dispersion-based primer for levelling compounds.
- Then Sikafloor®-200 Level, a high-build, polymer modified cementitious floor levelling compound, is used to create a slope for the drain.
- This is followed by Sikalastic®-260 Stop Aqua, a liquid applied waterproofing membrane, and Sika® SealTape, a waterproof sealing tape for movement and connection joints, which work together to provide seamless waterproofing protection in bathrooms, showers and wet rooms.
- Then a high-performance cement-based tile adhesive, like SikaCeram®-204 Medium White or SikaCeram®-204 Rapid, is used for the tile installation, followed by SikaCeram®-690 Elite, a cementitious wall and floor tile grout with superior durability and abrasion resistance.
- Finally, the system is complete with SikaSeal®-175, a sanitary bathroom and shower sealant for connection joints with excellent long-term resistance to mould growth.

FAQ
A full tiling project typically requires a primer, levelling compound, waterproofing membrane, tile adhesive, tile grout and a sanitary silicone sealant for joints. Sika offers a fully compatible system designed to deliver durable, long-lasting results across a variety of substrates and tile types.
Yes. Sika’s range includes tile adhesives, grouts and waterproofing membranes that are designed to be compatible with both walls and floors.
Sika tiling products are compatible with common substrates, including concrete, cementitious substrates, existing ceramic and stone tiles, gypsum substrates and wooden OSB and chipboard substrates. Refer to the Product Data Sheet for each product for the full list of compatible substrates before application.
The recommended tile adhesives for bathroom tiling are cement-based polymer modified tile adhesives that are flexible, water-resistant and classified at minimum as C2TE S1.
Sika offers SikaCeram®-204 Medium White, a cement-based tile adhesive with improved adhesion for ceramic tiles, or SikaCeram®-204 Rapid, a rapid setting tile adhesive.
A 20kg bag of tile adhesive typically covers an area of around 3 to 5 m². Uneven or porous surfaces require more adhesive to achieve a level and secure bond. A well-prepared, flat surface allows for more efficient coverage. Always check the Product Data Sheet for the most accurate coverage rates and recommended application methods for your project.
To calculate tile adhesive coverage for your project you can use the Sika Tile Adhesive Consumption Calculator found here.
Tile adhesive should be applied to a clean, dry and stable substrate using a notched trowel. After preparing the surface and ensuring any required priming or waterproofing is complete, spread the adhesive evenly across the area, holding the trowel at a consistent angle to create uniform ridges. Press each tile firmly into the adhesive, adjusting as required to achieve the correct alignment. Always follow the open time and working time stated on the Product Data Sheet and take care to avoid applying more adhesive than can be tiled over within that timeframe.

To waterproof a shower area, start with a clean, dry substrate and apply a suitable primer, like Sikafloor®-03 Primer. Apply the first layer of Sikalastic®‑260 Stop Aqua, a liquid waterproofing membrane, on the surface area you wish to waterproof. Take Sika® SealTape and apply it carefully to corners, wall and floor junctions and drain areas. Then apply the second coat of Sikalastic®‑260 Stop Aqua – once dry, the surface is waterproof!

To apply tile grout, first ensure that the tiles are fully set. Mix the grout according to the instructions on the Product Data Sheet, then use a rubber grout float to press it firmly into the tile joints at a 45° angle. Remove excess grout from the tile surface with the float, then wipe tiles with a damp sponge to clean residue. Once the grout has cured use a sanitary silicone sealant to seal any corner joints.
SikaSeal®-175 is a sanitary silicone sealant for sealing shower trays, bathtubs and sinks as well as connection joints in bathrooms. It has excellent long-term resistance to mould growth ensuring your bathroom remains clean, healthy and mould free.
