Home for IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships

The new Ice Dome in Dundalk was put on the map in April when it hosted the 2007 IIHF Ice Hockey Division lll World Championships. The hosts Ireland finished runners up, thus ensuring promotion to Division ll next year.

On the advice of Sika’s specialist distributor Curtis Concrete Solutions, specialised design requirements were required for the concrete mix placed beneath the ice rink. The concrete needed to have a low water/cement ratio with cement content as low as possible, whilst still retaining good placing characteristics. This was achieved using the Sika Viscocrete® 10 technology.

The concrete was supplied by Readymix Concrete Ltd and both the client and the concrete producer were very pleased with Sika’s technical support on the project.
