Sika Protects the Cliffs of Moher

The Sika Watertight Concrete system was used in the construction of the new visitor centre at the Cliffs of Moher, Co Clare which attracts over one million visitors annually.

The idea to construct a state of the art Interpretive Centre was first conceived 17 years ago and finally architects Reddy O’ Riordan Staehili Architects were given the task of designing a very unique structure which would not damage the views of the surrounding environment.

The entire concrete structure has been built into the side of the cliff and fully covered over with rock and top soil to blend in with the surrounding area. To protect and prevent the structure from any water ingress Sika Watertight Concrete was used throughout.

Main contractors Rohcon were very pleased with how the project turned out. Concrete for the project was supplied by Whelans Limestone Quarries with technical assistance from Sika staff.

"The entire structure has been made watertight using the Sika Watertight Concrete system and was installed with relative ease." Eddie O’Brien, Project Manager
