SikaTard® R

Set retarding/stabilising admixture

SikaTard® R is a liquid admixture developed for the control of cement hydration. SikaTard® R retards/stabilises sand/cement masonry mortars and concrete mixes.

SikaTard® R retards/stabilises the hydration of the cement.
  • Strong retardation/stabilising to enable brick/block laying to continue over long periods of time
  • Delays the set of the mortar, however the retarding/stabilising effect declines once in place as moisture evaporates and migrates due to the suction of the brick/block enabling setting and curing to occur as normal
  • Provides higher ultimate strengths

Usage

SikaTard® R allows the production of retarded/stabilised sand/cement masonry mortars.
SikaTard® R is mainly used for the following applications:
  • A wide range of applications where set retarding/stabilising is requested
  • In conjunction with Sikanol® 118 to provide masonry mortars for laying brick/blocks manufactured from absorbent materials such as clay, sand-line and concrete.

CE-labelled as per Annex ZA.3, table ZA.2 conformity 2+ and fulfil the requirements of the given mandate of the EU Construction Products Directive (89/106/CE).

Application Information

Compatibility

SikaTard® R may be combined with many other Sika products.
Important: Always conduct trials before combining products in specific mixes and contact our Technical Service Department for information and advice about any specific combinations.

Dispensing

SikaTard® R is added to the gauging water or added with it into the mortar/concrete mixer.
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

0.5 – 1.5% by weight of cement
Application steps

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The standard rules of good mortar/concreting practice, concerning production and placing, are to be followed.
Laboratory trials shall be carried out before concreting on site, especially when using a new mix design or producing new concrete components.
Fresh mortar/concrete must be cured properly and curing applied as early as possible.
Dosage rates to achieve the desired working life will depend on the type of mortar required, ambient temperature, sand quality and the desired workability.
