Sustainable solution to prevent ecological impacts

Lake Hovsgol National Park is situated in the north east of Mongolia. It is one of the oldest and clearest lakes in the world and venerated as the “Mother Sea”. Despite its remoteness, the environmental impacts of tourism are worsening and are likely to increase drastically in the future as a new road has been build and the nearest airport is being renovated. With the current capacities the park management is in no position to sustainably guide this development.

The Global Nature Fund, jointly with the Mongolia Ecology Center (MEC) works on training and equipping the park staff to better assess and manage the natural resources of the Park and supports the local communities to conserve traditional lifestyles while fostering the improvement of their livelihoods.
